Many men fear going bald and when their hairline does start to recede, there is litte choice over what to do: Comb-overs often look false, hair transplants are very expensive, there is little evidence to show how effective most lotions and potions are, and spray-on concealers wash off and are not a permanent solution.

However a new, slightly unusual procedure, is starting to gain popularity in part thanks to the cost and in part because it is permanent – a hair tattoo that costs around £2,000.

Cure for baldness in 5 years?

For men suffering from baldness, a cure could be on the market in the next five years according to some scientists who have identifed a scalp chemical that stops hair from growing.

Scientists have said that they have already developed drugs that blocks the protein that stops the hair from growing meaning that products to help with baldness could be on the market within just five years. The lotions could help stop ay more hair loss and may possibly even be able to stimulate hair growth again.

A pill to straighten hair?

Could this be the end of hair straighteners? Researchers believe that they have isolated the gene responsible for curly hair and are hoping that they can create a pill to make your hair straighter or curlier without the need for expensive hair accesories.

Australian scientists have recently discovered that the trichohyalin gene is mainly responsible for creating curls in hair. It is hoped that the discovery will not just be a boon to the beauty industry but will also help police forensics – hair and DNA found at scenes of crime may indicate what sort of hair the suspects have.

Botox – A Cure for Baldness?

Is Botox a cure for baldness? According to one California cosmetic surgeon, it could be.

Dr. Simon Ourian claims that he accidentally stumbled upon the alternative use for Botox whilst treating a patient for migraine. His patient was having chemotherapy which made her hair fall out. She was also suffering from intense migraines. Botox has already been found to help stop migraines in some people so Dr. Ourian injected his patient with the toxin to see if it would help cure the headaches. Botox was injected into the lady’s scalp. After the injections, the lady’s hair started to grow back.

Majority of women unaware of laser hair removal risks

According to the latest research, many women are unaware of the potential side effects and problems associated with laser hair removal treatments.

Women who are taking medications such as the contraceptive pill, who have heart problems or have diabetes should be very wary when considering having laser hair treatment as there is a higher risk of side effects. Anyone taking herbal remedies such as St. John’s Wort, those on acne medication, and those on anti-depressants should also take care when considering this form of hair removal. Women who have had skin cancer or who are pregnant are also advised not to have this treatment.
