Essentially a way of getting rid of hairs in the hose, the New York nose wax is not for the faint hearted although practitioners swear that the process doesn’t hurt. The removal of the hairs should not cause any health problems either.

Although nose hairs are present to help filter dust and bacteria from the air we breathe in before it goes to our lungs, the New York nose wax should only remove the thickest hairs from the edge of the nostril leaving plenty of hairs deeper inside the nose to continue their filtration job.

The nose wax involves a piece of special paper being placed under the nose. A spatula is then used to fill one nostril with wax (although some American clinics will do both nostrils at the same time). After about 30 seconds, the wax has cooled and set. The paper is pulled firmly and this takes the wax and unwanted nose hair with it.

Nose hair waxing costs around £5 upwards and although is available as a standalone treatment, it is often done in conjunction with other, more mainstream forms of waxing such as legs or bikini waxes.
