For those who suffer from excess sweating, two of the most popular options currently on the market are to use a strong anti-perspirant or to have Botox injected into the underarm area. Unfortunately, both of these options are just temporary measures. Another measure sees the nerves to the chest that lead to the sweat glands cut under general anaesthetic.

However, a British surgeon has developed a new cosmetic procedure which could help stop underarm sweating forever and will only require a local anaesthetic and leave minimal scarring.

The new cosmetic surgery technique will set you back around £3,500 and takes around an hour to complete. The procedure, named Laser Sweat Ablation, involves having a laser burn away underarm sweat glands, thus leaving patients with sweat-free underarms. Patients undergoing the surgery will be able to return to normal activities within hours of the surgery and will be fully recovered from the surgery within about a week.

Laser Sweat Ablation is aimed at helping people with minor sweat problems through to those with axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive, uncontrollable sweating).

However some in the industry have cautioned that surgery on the underarm area should only be viewed as a last resort and should only be used in extreme sweating cases as the underarm area can easily become infected and there is a relatively high likelihood of complications associated with underarm surgery.
