A product called the Snap-On Smile may be the perfect solution.

Many people wish that they had whiter or straighter teeth however they are unwilling to go for the range of cosmetic dentistry options available, for example tooth bleaching, adult braces or veneers. For those unwilling to use such drastic measures on their teeth, the Snap-On Smile may be an option.

The patient must first see a dentist who takes three moulds of your mouth – an impression of the upper teeth, an impression of the lower teeth, and an impression of your bite. Patients are then asked to choose the shape and colour they would like for their teeth. It is advisable when choosing the tooth colour to match the whites of the eyes otherwise the end result is a little unnatural looking, however the decision is entirely the patients own. There are three standard shapes of incisors and canines to choose from and again, it is advisable to go for teeth that are similar to your natural tooth shape.

The dentist then sends off your choices alongside the impressions and approximately three weeks later, you will be able to pick up your brand new smile.

The brace feels like plastic and should fit snuggly over the teeth and dentists claim that you can wear it all day and even eat and drink with it on. However if you have never worn a brace before, the sensation may be very odd. The brace can be snapped on and off at will meaning it can be removed discretely and easily if you prefer not to eat or drink with it in.

Most people are expected to use it on special occasions only rather than for everyday use.

At around £900/$1800 for the Snap-On Smile, this is not a cheap device. Because of the price, here at SimplyCosmeticSurgery.com, we would be slightly wary of eating and drinking with the brace on in case of cracking or staining.

If you have an overbite or your top teeth protrude, the Snap-On Brace may also not be a good option for you as the brace fits over your teeth and will therefore push the teeth out even further.

Could the Oralift, a plastic mouthguard, be the answer to looking ten years younger without cosmetic surgery? According to inventor London dentist Dr Nick Mohindra, this plastic mouthguard can help patients look younger by sculpturing their faces.

The Oralift is claimed can do many different things including:

Eliminate hollows under the eyes

Plump up the cheeks

Give fuller lips and a wider, more even smile

Tighten the jawline

Tone facial muscles

Soften nose-to-mouth lines

Tighten loose skin under the jawline and neck

Make the face more symmetrical

Give clearer skin

Vanish facial thread veins

Help remove or reduce the look of crow’s feet

Naturally, not every patient is claiming to see all of the above however most patients should see a more youthful appearance within a couple of days of starting the Oralift treatment. Peak ‘youthfulness’ should appear after three years of use. Mohindra claims that the benefits last pretty much forever.

For a piece of oral plastic, the claims really are fantastic. So how does this miracle mouthguard work?

To fit, the Oralift mouthguard is placed in a microwave to soften the plastic. It is then fitted to the lower teeth and allowed to cool for a few seconds where it will harden back into shape. The mouthguard itself is the shape of a horseshoe and contains two platform blocks above the rear teeth – and it is these platforms that are the key to the device.

The theory behind the Oralift is that as we get older we lose facial ‘height’, mainly between the nose and chin area. Partly this is due to the grinding of teeth or the natural wearing down of teeth through eating. By using the mouthguard you are increasing this height again and therefore reversing this particularly ageing process.

When our jaws our relaxed we have a ‘freeway space’ between our back teeth of between 1 and 3 millimetres. By wearing the Oralift mouth guard, this freeway space is stretched to up to a centimetre. As the stretching begins, the facial muscles are put under a little stress and it is claimed that this process allows them to release proteins that increase collagen, thus plumping out the skin. The increase in blood flow to the skin helps make it brighter and clearer and gives it a healthy glow.

The Oralift is said to be quite comfortable to wear however it can be difficult for the wearer to have a natural facial expression when wearing it. For best results, the patient has to keep their lips closed whilst wearing the mouthguard and not allow their back teeth to rest on the Oralift’s platforms. Whilst the patient is wearing the Oralift, they should not talk or eat.

When being fitted with the Oralift, the dentist should give you ‘training’ and a schedule of when to wear it. Typically, it will start with a day of two sessions of 15 minutes a piece followed by two rest days. The next sessions are half an hour long each every third day, building up to two 2 hour sessions every third day. The dentist will monitor the progress of the Oralift and may fit a new mouthguard with higher platforms to increase the effect if deemed necessary.

At £575, the Oralift isn’t cheap however if you are considering a facelift, this option is most definitely cheaper and comes without the risks normally associated with cosmetic surgery.

X Factor judge and boyband manager Louis Walsh has admitted that he has had his teeth done and would consider Botox in the future.

“’I'm feeling better, I’m looking after myself and I’ve had nothing done – yet,” Walsh commented in an interview with British newspaper the Daily Mail about the dental work he has had done.

“I got my top teeth fixed, that’s all. It’s called maintenance. “I went to Simon [Cowell]‘s dentist in London. I said I don’t want to look like Simon – I like to look real. I don’t want to look as if I’ve been standing in front of the mirror all day.

“Simon does, but he admits that. He has mirrors everywhere, and he looks at himself, and he’s making eyes at himself, and he’s frowning at himself. That’s all I can say bad about him.

“It just took two or three visits. I’m glad I’ve had it done now, because I have to look after myself. It’s like looking after the car. You have to valet the car, keep it in good shape.”

When questioned over whether he would ever have cosmetic work done, Walsh replied, “If I thought I needed it [Botox], I would – for business reasons. But I’m happy with the face I have at the moment.

“’I'm not hired for my looks. I’m on the panel because of my experience as a pop manager.”

With two glamorous girls – Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole, and Dannii Minogue (who is giving up on her Botox injections) – on the panel again this season, Walsh admits that he is more style conscious than before.

“I’m a little more conscious of my clothes this time, but I still don’t think I am like the other judges,” Walsh continued.

“They are always pruning and preening, nipping and tucking. They’ve got make-up girls and hairdressers and stylists – but I arrive on my own.

“The funniest thing is seeing Simon blow dry his own hair. He loves that funny haircut!”

Former boxing world champion Chris Eubank is spending around £30,000 on new teeth, with the added bonus that the new teeth will help him get rid of his trademark lisp.

Eubank is reported to be having cosmetic dentistry performed on his teeth to close the gap between his two front teeth and to help improve the aesthetic nature of his smile. The dentist who will be performing the work is Barry Buckley from the Clane General Hospital in Country Kildare.

Eubank has already had a trial version of his new teeth fitted and these teeth are said to have substantially improved his lisp already. Assuming Eubank is happy with the trial teeth, a porcelain version will then be made and fitted.

Although the actual cost of the cosmetic dentistry is not known, experts in the industry believe that Eubank will be paying around £30,000 for the dentistry work.
