Hundreds of people have had cosmetic surgery for free thanks to the UK’s NHS. Figures from the NHS Information Centre show that in the past year, the National Health Service (NHS) has spend £5.7 million on giving 471 patients liposuction and giving over 1,600 patients nose jobs, tummy tucks and breast reductions.
Doctors have explained the situation saying that the operations were not solely down to patients wanting to look better – there was a medical reason for the cosmetic surgery in all of the cases.

Efudix, a cream which is used to treat the early signs of skin cancer, is claimed to also be able to erase wrinkles in the skin and help patients look younger.
Ever since Efudix has been used there has been anecdotal evidence about it’s anti-ageing properties. Researchers from the University of Michigan decided to study Efudix in an attempt to discover whether the cream did actually hold anti-wrinkle properties or not.

Record numbers of men are having cosmetic surgery to get rid of their manboobs (a.k.a their ‘moobs’). In the UK and Scotland, the number of men seeking surgery to reduce their moobs is said to have almost doubled in the past year alone.
Gynaecomastia, the official name of man-boobs, has seen a 44 percent rise in the UK in 2008 according to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) making it the fifth most popular cosmetic surgery treatment for men behind nose jobs, eyelid surgery, ear corrections and liposuction.

Cosmetic surgeons are testing a new form of obesity surgery which enables patient’s stomachs to be stapled without the need to make any cuts in the abdomen. Instead, patients have a long, thick tube fed down their throats and this tube staples up part of the stomach.
Similar to current procedures, this creates a smaller stomach pouch helping patients feel full more quickly after eating, and also helping them to eat less.

One of the UK’s most notorious female murderers has been given £5,000 of cosmetic surgery on the National Health Service for free, angering some of the British public.
Tracie Andrews is currently in prison serving a life sentence after stabbing her fiancé Lee Harvey 37 times and then claiming a ‘wild-eyed maniac’ had attacked them both in a road rage incident.
