An unusual problem for medical tourists

Cosmetic surgery can have unexpected consequences, particularly for medical tourists.

According to AFP, a group of 23 Chinese medical tourists travelled to South Korea to have cosmetic surgery on their faces. The surgery involved giving the group bigger eyes, slimmer chins and higher noses.

The women, who were aged between 36 and 54, looked so different to their passport photos that Airport Officers were unsure as to whether they really were the women they claimed to be.

The 10 minute non-surgical nose-job

For patients looking for a rhinoplasty (nose job) but who don’t want to go under the knife, a new non-surgical nose-job may be the answer.

An anaesthetic cream is used on the nose. Injections of cosmetic filler are then injected around the nose to change it’s shape. The whole process takes around 10 minutes and can therefore be carried out during a lunch hour.

Louis Walsh admits to have dental work done

X Factor judge and boyband manager Louis Walsh has admitted that he has had his teeth done and would consider Botox in the future.

“’I'm feeling better, I’m looking after myself and I’ve had nothing done – yet,” Walsh commented in an interview with British newspaper the Daily Mail about the dental work he has had done.

Miss Plastic Hungary 2009

Most beauty pageant contestants would not consider having cosmetic surgery however a new beauty pageant in Hungary aims to change that view by holding a contest which is only for women who have had some form of cosmetic surgery.

The Miss Plastic Hungary 2009 beauty pageant will be held on October 9th and is open to any woman with a Hungarian residence, regardless of nationality, who is aged between 18 and 30 and who has undergone some form of cosmetic surgery.

Danni Minogue gives up her Botox injections

Danni Minogue has said she is giving up her Botox injections. The 38 year old Australian singer, who is currently a judge for the UK’s X-Factor TV show, has been attracting comments that her face was rather expressionless as it doesn’t appear to move.

Minogue has said that she has taken the comments on board and is going to stop her Botox injections.

“I see the comments,” she commented in an interview with Grazia magazine. “Plastic. All Botox.

UK’s first eyelash transplant using hair from the head

Cosmetic surgeons have performed the UK’s first eyelash transplant using hair taken from the back of the head.

The teenage patient had been suffered from trichotillomania, sometimes also known as trichotillosis or ‘trich’, an impulse control disorder where the patient repeatedly pulls out an area of hair. In this particular case, the patient had pulled out most of her upper eyelashes, having suffered from the disorder for the last 17 years.

Americans face cosmetic surgery tax

As Barack Obama looks to overhaul the American health care system at a cost of $1 trillion, cosmetic surgery procedures such as rhinoplasty, breast enlargements, tummy tucks and liposuction could be hit with a new ten percent tax to help foot the bill.

The American cosmetic surgery industry was reportedly worth $10.3 billion in 2008, spent on 12.1 million plastic surgery operations. Around five million shots of Botox were administered; nearly a quarter of a million had liposuction; over 120,000 tummy tuck operations were performed.
