Botox and Booze banned by the Aussies

Australian health authorities have moved in to stop the Botox cowboys who stage parties where Botox injections are the star attractions. Commonly refered to as the ‘Booze and Botox’ parties, the bashes have started to replace the old-style Tupperwar parties.

Health Minister John Hatzistergos said, “It is important that we should protect consumers and do something about ensuring these Botox cowboys are put out of business. The sort of deceptive advertising, the before and after shots, the promotion of these sorts of treatments in social settings where people are drinking alcohol and not in a position to be able to make informed decisions, are totally inappropriate.”

In a candid interview with Julia Roberts, movie star George Clooney has admitted that he has undergone cosmetic surgery on his eyes. Roberts questioned her Ocean’s Twelve co-star at home in his Los Angeles pad. Roberts asked Clooney what that last big change in his life was and he replied, “I had my eyes done. Can you tell? I think it’s important to look awake.” Meanwhile, Julia Roberts claims she hasn’t had any cosmetic surgery done ‘yet’.

Fake doctors charged

In Hanoi, Vietnam, police have charged two people with conducting illegal plastic surgery after one of their ‘patient’s died. A police statement said, “We arrested Junynh Trung Hien and charged him and his girlfriend Hand Thien Kim on Sunday on charges of violating medical regulations.”

The couple, both 23, confessed that they had been doing illegal nose and eyelid surgeries, and that about 10 people had been operated on in total. Unfortunately, one of these died in November last year thanks to anaesthesia shock after her eyelid surgery. Neither Hien or Kim had attended medical school and were therefore unprepared for the complication.

The AACS announces it’s 2006 results

The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS) has recently announced the results of it’s 2006 Procedural Data. The data is collected by surveying it’s US members.

The results show that for the seventh year in a row, liposuction is the top cosmetic surgical procedure, and botox tops the list of non-invasive cosmetic procedures. This follows on from the UK’s results, which also show liposuction being the top cosmetic surgeru procedure. The survey also shows that the number of men going under the knife has increased by 3% over the past 4 years, and 1/5 of all cosmetic procedures are now carried out on men.

New way of healing wounds

CSMG Technologies has recently announced that they have had their new tissue bonding/welding technology tried on 170 human pediatric patients in the Ukraine. The bonding process uses a technology that bonds and reconnects living soft biological tissues (such as skin) through fusion without using foreign materials or devices such as suctures, staples, glues or sealants. Over 7,000 patients have had this technique applied so far, and most have been successful.

Stefani considers cosmetic surgery

Speaking to Elle magazine, Gwen Stefani has admitted that she would consider going under the knife when she gets older, although she does find the current obsession that people have with cosmetic surgery very weird. “Each to their own,” she explained. “I enjoy a great surgery TV show as much as anyone else. I watched a lot of those shows whilst I was pregnant. But it’s pretty bizarre that this is the stage where we’re at – that you can place an order for how you’re going to look. People take it lightly, but it’s a big deal. I’ve thought it over but I’m not at that stage yet.”
