In the past, women looking to enhance the look of the breasts generally only had one option – a mastoplexy, more commonly known as a boob job. However Botox may now be a non-surgical option to help womens’ breasts look more pert.

The ‘Botox breast lift’ is said to be much cheaper than a it’s surgical alternative, and promises instant results, no recovery time required and is said to have no side effects.

Botox is most commonly known for its use in combatting wrinkles on the face. However because the toxin is injected into the muscle, paralyzing it, there are common side effects such as a ‘droopy’ look to the face. The Botox breast lift is slightly different in that the Botox injections are into the skin rather than the muscle. As the muscles around the breast area are not frozen, there is no loss os sensation in the area.

The Botox Breast Lift Procedure
Patients should expect a local anaesthetic cream to be applied to the breasts and the surrounding area. Botox is then administered via injection in and around all the breasts. It is important that the Doctor injects Botox all around the breast itself, including the front of the chest all the way to the armpits, to achieve the best effect.

Small injections of Botox are also applied to the areola (the coloured part of the nipple).

It is claimed that the injections will leave no bruising and will not cause any pain. The lack of surgical incisions means that the injections can be done over a lunch-time so no down-time is required.

Results from the Botox breast lift should be instantly visible, however it may take a few days for the full lifting and smoothing effect to become visible. A top-up treatment three weeks after the initial treatment is advised however it is not mandatory.

Initial results have shown that patients can expect breasts to be lifted by up to two centimetres with the volume of the breast increasing by up to 10 percent.

The longevity of the results will vary from person to person however repeat treatments are expected to be required every 6 months.

Women with larger cup sizes are cautioned that the technique is probably not for them – larger breasts may be too heavy for the treatment to have any effect. Therefore anyone who has a cup size larger than a ‘C’ may find this Botox treatment ineffective.

Nearly fifty thousand women in the UK have been warned that they could be in danger of their breast implants rupturing.

Anyone with silicone implants made by the French firm Poly Implant Prothese – PIP for short – are encouraged to contact their cosmetic surgeons to discuss having their implants removed or replaced. It is believed that the PIP breast implants are twice as likely to rupture as other implants.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency in the UK has already told cosmetic surgeons they are not allowed to use these breast implants any more. Before the warning, PIPs were one of the most popular implants used in breast enlargement surgery.

The implant has already been banned in France after it was discovered that the silicone gel used in them is of a different composition to the gel that was approved in 2001. Testing is now taking place to determine whether the gel is safe or not.

If implants do rupture, the patient runs the risk of developing toxic shock syndrome or gangrene. It is therefore a good precaution to have the implants removed. If you have these implants or are unsure as to the implants you have it is a good idea to contact your cosmetic surgeon as soon as possible to discuss what options are open to you.

Around ninety per cent of the implants manufactured by PIP were exported, with around 66 countries receiving them.

Women are always being told how important it is to wear a bra which is the correct size for them, particularly as research shows that a large proportion of women regularly wear the wrong sized bra. An ill-fitting bra will not support the breasts fully and can cause poor posture over time.

However not all women like to wear bras as they can sometimes chafe or generally just feel uncomfortable. On the other hand, some women are also loathe to remove their bras as they dislike the sagginess of their breasts without the support that a bra provides.

Now, there is a solution – the internal bra breast lift. The Internal Bra System is a new form of breast-lift cosmetic surgery. In a normal breast lift, the newly formed breast is held up by skin alone. This means that over time, scars can stretch and the breasts will be start to sag.

However the new breast lift takes the strain away from the skin by using a mesh-like material called Breform. A similar material to Breform is already in use in hernia operations and it helps to provide inbuilt support.

Cosmetic surgeons perform the breast lift and then insert a cone-shaped piece of the polyester Breform mesh underneath the skin. It is then secured to the layer of fat just above the breast tissue. Over time, the mesh gets incorporated into the breast as the body produces a fibrous tissue that cements the structure into place. This means that the mesh turns into something akin to an internal bra system. One implanted, the patient should not be able to feel the mesh underneath the skin.

The results of the Internal Bra Breast Lift are said to last longer than the usual breast lift procedure.

Trials in Holland have shown that 60 percent of women who have had the mesh implanted now go on a regular basis without a bra. 170 women have been followed for four and a half years and no serious complications have been found so far. Physical and X-ray examinations of the breasts are also still possible.

The downside of this procedure is that America’s Federal Drug Administration (FDA) has not yet approved the Breform device as the long-term safety of the device has yet to be proven. Although a similar substance has been used in hernia operations for over 40 years, cosmetic surgeons are keen to point out that putting anything into the body must be monitored for at least ten years to ensure that the product does not become harmful to the body over the course of several years.

There is also little research on how the mesh system will cope with pregnancy – breasts tend to swell in size during pregnancy and may become too big for the internal bra system. It is also unknown whether the mesh will cause problems with breast-feeding.

Thus, anyone who is looking to have this Internal Bra System cosmetic surgery must be aware of the possible risk they are taking with an long-term unproven elective surgery.

Thankfully, Botox appears to be the answer.

There is much pressure on women to get back to their pre-pregnancy shape as soon as possible after birth. One of the biggest complaints is a saggy chest area. As women get older, the chest area is one of the giveaways to a woman’s age as the area starts to sag, particularly in sun-worshippers, and wrinkles start to appear.

Botox has many uses however it is most commonly associated with helping to make the face look younger by reducing the look of lines and wrinkles. This technique is now being extended to other areas of the body to help them stay looking youthful for longer.

The ‘Breastox’, as it has been termed, is not cheap at around £1,000 per session however the injections are great for a boost of confidence, particularly in new Mums – although the treatment is not recommended for anyone who has given birth in the last three months.

The Breastox procedure involves an anaesthetic cream being rubbed into the chest area. Around a dozen injections of Botox are made into the pectoralis minor chest muscle. This muscle is then ‘frozen’, leading other muscles to compensate and strengthen thus casuing the bust to lift. This lifting effect ensures that wrinkles are smoothened out and the area perks up.

The best candidates for this Breastox procedure are women in the 20s and 30s with A or B cup breasts. It will take about a fortnight before the full effects of the injections are seen, and the results will last around three or four months before more injections are required.

At around £1,000 per session, Breastox Botox injections are not cheap – and the total costs may end up being £4,000 a year. If a patient likes the results from this cosmetic procedure, it is worth looking into having a full breast lift operation because although the initial outlay is more, in the long-run a breast lift may be the cheaper option.
