School asks students to go under the knife

A school in China has sparked controversy after requesting that more than 30 of their students have cosmetic surgery before they graduate. The surgery requested varied from double-fold eyelids through to the removal of moles and breast enlargements.

Reportedly, the school asked the girls to go under the knife to make them more attractive and therefore giving them a better chance of getting a job after graduation – a practice which is not uncommon in Asia – particularly as many of the students wanted to become air hostesses.

Residents were not happy, believing that the school was focusing too much on the external appearance of the students instead of improving the overall quality of the teaching. The school responded that it was a tough employment market and the students needed to improve their appearance to give them the edge.
